The goldpanning Finnish open championships

The first goldpanning national championships were organized in Tankavaara in 1974. The championships became a tradition. A strong international co-operation grew and now several national goldpanning championships are organized in several countries. Every year some of the member countries of the World Goldpanning Association is given the task of holding the world goldpanning championships. The task goes around among the members.

The Finnish open is held during the first weekend of august. It's part of the Gold Week which starts a week earlier in Lemmenjoki. The championships see hundreds of goldpanners from Finland and abroad - and a big audience.

There are series for women, men, youngsters, children, veterans and teams. There's also an additional series for beginners to test skills the first time. Or just to have fun!
